| New site identified for civilian
airport in Pune |
New Delhi, December 12, 2006
- A new site at Rajguru Nagar, six km. north
of Chakan in Pune has been identified as
the possible site for a civilian airport
in Pune. This information was given by Shri
Praful Patel, Minister for Civil Aviation
in the Parliament today.
The earlier site, identified at Chakan in
Pune was not acceptable to the Ministry of
Defence from operational point of view with
reference to the existing Defence Airfield
at Lohegaon in Pune.
Thus in the month of October 2006, a team
comprising of officials from Airports Authority
of India(AAI), the Directorate General of
Civil Aviation(DGCA) and Maharashtra Industrial
Development Corporation(MIDC) carried out
preliminary site inspection of an alternate
site near Rajguru Nagar. This site is acceptable
to the Ministry of Defence.
MIDC has been requested to provide the meteorological
data of the new site in coordination with
the Indian Meteorological Department. After
receipt of these details a technical study
will be carried out and thereafter appropriate
decision will be taken by the Government
in the matter. |
